Ricard Torra Prat (Barcelona) Public Control in Non-Royal Jurisdiction Institutions: The Visita of the General of Catalonia (1542-1714)

The Visita of the General of Catalonia was an institution whose aim was accounting and prevent corruption and wrongdoings from public officers of the Generality of Catalonia, the permanent deputation of the Catalan Cortes. The Visita was created by the Catalan Parliament in 1599 and operated until 1714 when it was suppressed along with all the other Catalan institutions by Philip V of Spain. This presentation wants to offer a panoramic overview of the institution: its process of creation, how and when it worked, who was affected by its procedures and its place inside the political systems of both, the Principality of Catalonia and the rest of the Spanish Monarchy.
